Directed by Brendan Canty (the mind behind Hozier’s "Take Me to Church" video), CHRISTY is a poignant 2025 drama centered on a 17-year-old navigating the foster system.
The Story at a Glance
After being kicked out of his suburban home, Christy returns to Cork’s working-class northside to live with his estranged brother, Shane. While Shane wants to protect him from their "destructive" extended family, Christy finds an unexpected sense of belonging in the community they left behind.
Why It’s a Must-Watch
Award-Winning: It took home the Grand Prix at the 2025 Berlinale and Best Irish Film at the Galway Film Fleadh.
Fresh Tone: It avoids the "misery" tropes of typical social dramas, instead using humor and heart to explore brotherhood.
Authentic Roots: A gritty, heartfelt look at modern Irish identity and the meaning of home.
WHEN: Sunday, March 1, 7 pm
WHERE: AFI Silver Theatre, 8633 Colesville Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20910
